Samsung Electronics has begun full-fledged efforts to distinguish its products from others with materials. Following the launch of low-end phones with full metal bodies, the company plans to feature front and back full body tempered glass on its new high-end smartphones--the Galaxy S6.

Samsung and industry sources said on Jan. 19 that the new smartphone will adopt a body design mixing metal and glass, unlike the rumors that it would have a full metal body.

Samsung plans to unveil two types of phones in the Galaxy S6 series--the Galaxy S6 with ordinary display screens and the Galaxy S6 Edge’ with curved screens. The Galaxy S6’s screens are curved on both sides, unlike the Galaxy Note 4 Edge (picture) with a screen curved only on one side.

A Samsung source said, “The Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge do not feature full metal bodies but are finished with tempered glass front and back.”

The front and back sides are covered with tempered glass and trimmed with metal, which is similar to the iPhone 4. The battery is not separable.

Samsung does not adopts a full metal body for the Galaxy S6, a measure that seems to distinguish the new phone from its low-end smartphone Galaxy A. As both metal and tempered glass has been already used by Apple for its iPhones. Samsung may not avoid charges that it has benchmarked Apple.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge will be on sale during the first quarter of this year. The new phones are expected to be unveiled at the Samsung Unpacked immediately before the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 in Barcelona, Spain.
